Yesterday was a travel day for me as I flew back to the U.S. to help my cousin, Donna and her husband Carl move. A move to finally live their dream that started 20 years ago. Imagine that…a dream that is 20 years in the making. 2017 must be the year to make dreams come true.
Having moved 10 plus times in the past 20 years, I guess they think I have a bit of knowledge about this moving thing. They have a lot on their plate and to add to the moving fun Donna broke a bone in her foot a few weeks ago. So, I am very happy that I am able to be here to help them get through the packing and moving.
Being away from Bob for two weeks is something I am not happy about. For us being together 24/7 isn’t enough so anytime we are apart it is hard. Two weeks is a lonnnnnnggggg time. Not sure how either of us are going to cope with that.
Today I have been packing baskets and the contents of the china cabinet. I have to say I would rather pack a china cabinet over baskets any day! Even though it is just the first day of packing it has brought back all kinds of memories of our move. Donna and Carl have had to decide what to take and what to leave just like we did.
Being family there are obviously shared memories of some items for Donna and me. Or ones that are very special to her that make me think of similar family things that I have. Before my Mom passed away she made a note that I needed to be sure to take/find the sugar bowl that my great-grandmother carried over on the boat from Ireland. She and I had talked about it but I never knew what it looked like. When we packed up her belongings when she passed we never came across it. Well, Donna and I think we figured it out. She has a sugar bowl that came from our grandmother’s house so we are assuming that it is it. At least this is the story we are going with.
I really didn’t think I would be back in the States so soon after our move. It’s a bit strange to be honest. I don’t have a home here anymore. I’m not going back to where we moved from so it is different. What does feel familiar is being with family. My cousin Brian picked me up from the airport yesterday. Thanks Brian! I’m looking forward to seeing more family while I am here. And spending time with Donna and Carl is always fun.
I will be thoroughly exhausted after all the packing and moving is done. I think I will need a nice long rest in…hmmmmm….a quiet hilltop vineyard in Spain. Yes, that will do nicely.
