We’ve all heard the saying,
‘It’s what’s inside that counts.’
Well, that is especially true with grapes it seems.
A couple of days ago on my morning walk, I decided to go see if my favorite bunch of grapes (and their friends) had been picked yet. As I walked along the end of the rows I saw that they had indeed picked the grapes from this plot. I almost turned around to walk a different way since I had my answer but something made me walk to the row where my favorite bunch lived.
WHAT?! How could that beautiful (well previously beautiful) bunch of grapes still be hanging on the vine? It looks like they had been sampled many times by humans. I say humans because the wild pigs do get to the grapes (and prefer red grapes to white) but this bunch is too high up and it is the top grapes that have been sampled.

I was so sad. It was so beautiful. Do you remember?
I was so sad that they didn’t make the cut. Why? Was the sugar content not perfect? What could be the reason that they would be left on the vine?

Now, that was my original thought. Maybe the bunch was too large and thus the sugar content wasn’t up to par. That may be the case but…
I decided to walk by them the next morning and I had a better look at the other vines around it. It appears that perhaps these were picked by the machine, not humans. Their location on the vine and against the pole would make it difficult for the machine to pick them. Maybe that is why they were left behind. Still makes me sad though.
P.S. No, I haven’t asked anyone why because they all busy with the harvest and the last thing they need is me asking why my favorite bunch of grapes didn’t make the cut.
