I don’t make New Years’ resolutions anymore. It didn’t matter whether I shared them with family and friends to keep me accountable or not. I just didn’t make them happen. Many of us do it. We want to improve ourselves or start reaching for that dream or goal we have been thinking about. I’m sure we can all share our excuses or reasons. My biggest one in the past 6 years had been my job getting in my way. Consuming all those hours when my brain cells are awake, and my body is energized. Now I don’t have that reason or excuse.
I think one of the biggest hurdles is that when we have dreams or goals we just look at this HUGE dream and it looks daunting and unattainable. How will we ever accomplish what we need to in order to make it happen? We still have our normal daily life happening so how will we accomplish it?
It is true that with very little free time in our lives it can seem impossible. Even now I find that I have so many things that I want to accomplish that there isn’t enough time in the day. But I know I need to prioritize my to do list so that I am doing what I want and need to do. I think most of us waste more time a day than we realize. Social media can be the biggest culprit. So instead of saying, “I’m going to limit time on social media” I will be working on promoting my blog and my photography through not only social media but other online avenues. I will change how I spend my time online so that it is benefiting my dreams.
Last year was pretty monumental for making changes that led to this amazing dream of living in Spain happen. Bob and I adjusted where our focus was so that we could make it happen. It wasn’t always easy but now when we look back at what we accomplished in 6 short months to move here and also what we have accomplished in the 9 months since we arrived we know it was all worth it.
I started my blog and have gotten back into photography which I had missed tremendously. I love writing and although there are days that I sometimes struggle with what I want to write about I am always thrilled and, if I am honest, proud of myself when I hit the publish button. Putting myself out there in every post is a baby step to making other dreams happen.
That’s what we need to do to make changes in our lives. Baby steps. Not say, “I’m going to lose 40 pounds this year!” and then be discouraged because it didn’t just happen instantly. Baby steps. Do something each day that helps you reach that dream or that next goal.
This is my plan for 2018…lots and lots of baby steps and heck I’m going to make some big leaps too just to mix it up. Because I know I can!
