Be kind.

Two words. That’s it. Two words that make all the difference. Be kind to strangers. Be kind to neighbors. Be kind to friends. Be kind to family.

There is so much hate in the world these days. Well, to be honest there has always been hate but now it is in our face every minute thanks in part to the media and social media. The media is a business. They depend on ratings. Let’s face it…bad news spreads much quicker and farther than good news. With social media people can be mean and hateful without having to face the person they are directing the hate to. Hate feeds hate. People are so quick to judge others without knowing any of the facts let alone all the facts. When will it all stop?

My beloved home, America, is being portrayed in the news both at home and abroad as a nation that is terribly broken. Hatred is rampant. No one is offering any hope of this changing any time soon. This truly breaks my heart.

Here’s the thing. Be kind. That’s all it takes.

Stop listening to the biased news. Whichever side you are on. Research the truth yourself. Then be part of the solution. Stop feeding the problem.

Stop reacting to social media by spreading more hate in your comments or the posts you are making. Be kind. Be part of the solution. Stop feeding the problem.

Listen, I know we are not all going to agree on everything but stop and think before you spread more hate. Be kind.

Whenever there is a disaster happening like it is in Texas right now the goodness of strangers is abundant. People are helping strangers. People are being kind. People are doing whatever they can to help other people. People are traveling hundreds of miles to be there to help. People are donating money and clothes and food. There isn’t prejudice. There isn’t hatred. There is KINDNESS. The stories are amazing. The stories give us HOPE. It doesn’t need to take something so horrendous to show compassion for your neighbors and for strangers. Just be kind. 

What we all need is hope. Hope for a future that is not filled with hate. It starts with being kind.
