September’s Spectacular Sunrises

The first week of September is coming to an end…already! We’ve been enjoying cooler temperatures – cooler mornings and warm afternoons. Although the coastal towns of Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltrú have had heavy rains a couple of nights this week…we have had nothing up here in the vineyard. That’s actually a good thing for the grapes at this final stage of the ripening. Harvest started just over two weeks ago so little or no rain is better.

The first week of September has also brought some spectacular sunrises. It has been hard to continue my walking as I just want to stand still and watch how it changes.

I love crystal clear mornings but I also love having clouds to make the sunrise more amazing.

‘When scattered clouds are resting on the bosoms of hills, it seems as if one might climb into the heavenly region, earth being so intermixed with sky, and gradually transformed into it.’ ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, 1839

‘When we look up, it widens our horizons. We see what a little speck we are in the universe, so insignificant, and we all take ourselves so seriously, but in the sky, there are no boundaries. No differences of caste or religion or race.’ ~Julia Gregson

‘We can only appreciate the miracle of a sunrise if we have waited in the darkness.’ ~Author unknown

‘Why do I love clouds? Because you can’t save a cloud like you can save a leaf or a flower or a rock — clouds are now! Clouds are the carpe diem of nature.’ ~Terri Guillemets

  1. Sunrise is incredible, but definitely too early. That is the only reason I like winter in Alaska, Sunrise is generally at a decent hour, like 9 am. Clouds do make the sun’s movements more visual. :o) They are often sweeping silent crescendos of color crashing into each other and complimenting the world around.
