Today I am celebrating my big sister Vicky’s birthday! Google Earth tells me that we are about 5200 miles (8300 kilometers) away from each other. I may not be there in person to share her birthday cake but I am definitely there in spirit.
Vicky is two and a half years older than me. She played both roles of a big sister when we were growing up. Picking on me as much as she could but also being my fiercest protector. We haven’t lived near each other for decades yet we are the best of friends.
Vicky taught me a lot growing up. And to be honest she is still teaching me.
She has been there to help me celebrate my triumphs and comfort me during my saddest times. She has tried and (sometimes) succeeded in talking me out of doing something stupid. If I still did that something stupid she was right there to tell me, “I told you so!”
She and our sister Sandy have been nothing but supportive of my move to Spain even though it took me farther away and the time difference makes talking a bit more of a challenge.
So, Vicky since I can’t be there to help you celebrate in person I hope that you are having a fabulous day celebrating YOU! And that your cake is at least this big.
