Discovering ancient treasures is what happens when you decide to take a different way home. And wow! what a find we had today!
This morning we went to the open air market in Sant Sadurní to see if I could find another sweater like the one I bought there in December. We had no luck on the sweater but did buy some fruits and veggies. We also stopped at the Rostisseria del Mercat and bought a couple of pieces of chicken and some roast potatoes to go. Yum!
We left Sant Sadurní and ended up taking a different road than we usually do. A very twisty windy road and as we come around one corner there is this castle on a hill in the distance. It was amazing! So, we followed the road which took us there. It turned out to be a 10th century castle. Castell de Subirats.
The first thing I did was try to get a good photo of Montserrat Mountains. Not great photos but it was an incredible view.
We decided to have a picnic of our chicken and potatoes that we bought at the market and then have a wander around.
The castle and church were not open but we walked around the property and took in the view. I found this YouTube video that they took with a drone on their website. You really should take a look at it.
Can you spot the rock climbers?
As you can see it was quite incredible. I love the history…imagine the stories of those who built the castle.
There is so much to explore here. I wonder what we will find next.
Fantastic!
