Winter must be on its way as they have started the winter pruning in the vineyard.
We are still enjoying the leaves of the vines changing although a lot of the leaves are now turning brown and withering. We keep discussing how the vines are thinner yet there do not seem to be leaves dropping on the ground so why does it look so different?
Today as we started our walk we looked towards the church and were surprised that the leaves have fallen off the trees in front of it. It seems like this happened instantly.
They started the winter pruning on some of the older vines. Bob and I both love the older vines as they each have their own character. They have been around a long time and I think if given a chance they could tell some incredible stories. Look at these personalities.
John Travolta!!
Can you see the face in the one below? Werewolf? Chewbacca?
An ice skater? What do you see?
The twists and turns and branching out to the sky or out to the sides. It would be interesting to photograph a vine over the years to see its personality take form.
Below we have the hangers on. The grapes that I think still live in hope.
What a change the pruning makes to the landscape.
When we got home and Bob poured us a glass of wine…he profoundly pondered aloud that those old gnarly vines produced this luscious wine. Hmmm…don’t judge a book by its cover?
Below Bob is pondering how incredible it is that these vines go from this barren stump to making wine in 12 months.
