It is a holiday weekend in America. Today is Memorial Day. This is the day we honor those who died while serving in our armed forces. We honor them every day but today is a special day.
For those back home who are just treating the long weekend as a time for the beach and BBQs…please take a moment and remember what this day is about.
God Bless those that made the ultimate sacrifice.
These are some of the photos that Bob and I took when we visited Normandy, France back in 2008. A trip I wish more Americans would experience. An extremely sobering visit.
“I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did.”
