We often see these large bees flying about the yard and joke that they are large enough to give small children rides. They always seem to look a bit lost as they fly around appearing to be looking for their home. Today I finally got up close and captured a couple of shots.
This is a Violet Carpenter Bee. Look at those gorgeous wings!
Oh wait, he flew away.

First read that as violent carpenter bee. We often get them here and I had no idea that’s what they are called. You really are educating me on flora and fauna
