Today we wandered over to the nearby village of Canyelles to attend their 15th Santa Llúcia Fair. Canyelles is a sleepy village with a population of about 4,400 people. Well, the crowds for this fair must quadruple that amount. With over 350 stalls there was something for just about everyone.
There were a lot of people there.
Lots of food.
Look at that meat!!!!
And our absolute favorite…not only are they selling bread but they are making it and BAKING it right there!!!!
We stopped in this unmarked building for a glass of cava.
Then onward up towards the North Pole…well…cause that’s where Pare Noel (Father Christmas) lives. The line of children with their parents snaked around the top of the lane. Interesting point is that no one seemed to be impatient.
There were rides for the children. Horse rides both real and pretend. And a merry-go-round ride in a wine barrel. Sure wish I could have ridden that one.
Of course there were lots of Tió de Nadal items to purchase and one that the children could interact with. This is an interesting Catalan tradition which I will write more about after Christmas. Our neighbors have invited us to their home on Christmas day to enjoy this tradition with their family.
It was an absolutely fabulous festival and one that I think will become a new tradition for us.
