Today is the second of three posts on the festivities of Carnaval in Vilanova i la Geltrú! You can read the first post here. Friday we held our writers’ group at my house and followed it with a short walk in the vineyard. Then we headed to Vilanova for the festivities.
As we walked into town and then had lunch on the Rambla you could feel the energy and excitement building. Seriously, you could feel the vibe. We had fun people watching as they wandered up and down the Rambla in costume. We easily passed the afternoon and early evening until the parade made it to where we had been sitting on a bench. Time to stand up and enjoy the show! And that we did.
You should have heard these little girl’s squeals and giggles as they saw their friend in the crowd and she ran over to them.
This was a great cover-up for the booze it was hiding.
This was the end of the evening for us. Patricia headed off to catch a train home and Mark and I made our way around and through the festivities for the walk back up to his home and where I had parked my car. The parade and party went on for many hours after this and as you can see was enjoyed by all. This is a community coming together to celebrate traditions in their own special way.
